Frequently Asked Questions

I've heard that some models of sewage treatment plants never need to be pumped out. Is this true?

All sewage that enters into a treatment plant system, no matter what the brand name, will settle into three areas in the first chamber: the scum layer, the clear zone, and the sludge layer. Much of the scum and sludge consist of non-biodegradeable substances such as fats/oils/greases, papers, and plastics. These substances will not completely break down within the time they're in the treatment plant. Each brand of system has this primary area, and it is designed to hold back solids. If solids accumulate for too long, they will begin to pass through the baffles/weirs or tees that prevent solids from entering into secondary chambers or even into the "field." Once solids accumulate in the field, the system will eventually fail. Therefore, regular pumping and maintenance of ANY septic system, whether it is a septic tank or a sewage treatment plant, is mandatory and essential to the well being of your field and septic system.

I've heard that maintenance of a sewage treatment plant is very time consuming and expensive compared to a conventional septic tank. Is this true of the systems that Enviro Choice sells?

Although some brands of treatment plants can be expensive to maintain, you can rest assured that ALL systems sold/supplied by Enviro Choice are maintained by factory trained and certified maintenance personnel at a price that is very affordable. Enviro Choice only charges the customer for service calls on an as-needed basis, and depending on your physical location and the equipment in your system, it may cost you the same or even less than some conventional septic systems. Items such as pump chambers, effluent filters, lift stations, subsurface drip systems, and pressure distribution fields may slightly increase your yearly costs. Enviro Choice always offers onsite installation assistance to all ROWP contractors to ensure that your system is installed properly and safely, and that will help save you money and unnecessary service calls!
